Everything's Broken

She went alone to the movies to escape into Hollywood's hands,

The screen color's soothing. Can lift a mood like the weatherman.

And her lover is asleep on his cross

He's playing the martyr for the dream's that he's lost

She just can't keep out the rain or the rust

Cause everything's broken, everything's broken

Chorus

Well you've just got to breathe

Throw the weight off the table

Watch china break up in midair

But I can't help you leave

You gotta walk on a cable

Each step's gonna bring you somewhere...

She wakes up and the theater's bare

A coffee shop at midnight, She befriended a novelist there

The plot thickens with daylight. She hides a bruise beneath a lock of her hair

And ain't it a paradox, you find love and get lost

I walked her home on Winter Street, knowing boundaries were crossed

You pay the rent but you don't know the cost

'Til everything's broken... 'Til your last friend has spoken

Chorus

Well you've just got to breathe

Throw the weight off the table

Watch china break up in midair

But I can't help you leave

You gotta walk on a cable

Each step's gonna bring you somewhere...

She walks up her Winter Street stair

Hey...  hey, hey, hey yeah....

Now she's dressed like a riddle, she's pretty as a turn of a phrase

She's pierced in the middle, she'll catch your eye like a misplaced parade

And in my living room, she's falling apart

The tale is a tragedy, it's Shakespeare's lost art

You find your voice when you're most torn apart

When everything's broken... When your own lips have spoken

Chorus

Well you've just got to breathe

Throw the weight off the table

Watch china break up in midair

She watched herself leave

Took a walk on a cable

Each step's gonna bring her somewhere

A thousand feet in the air

And ain't that a breeze up there?

Up there... up there...
