Using WS-FTP LE

FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. This will allow you to is transfer files or documents from your hard drive/local system, to a Remote server or the other way around, from the remote server to your hard drive.

1.Once you've installed the program, you should be able to open it from it's icon or from the correct selection in your program menu. You now should have the WSFTP Screen showing. It will similar to the picture below.

Note that the WSFTP Screen is divided into 2 columns, Local System and Remote System. Local System corresponds to your PC and Remote System corresponds to your Virtual Web Server on our machine. The top field of each column contains the directory that you are currently connected to in both systems. The larger boxes are divided into 2 regions. The upper region of each contains directory names and disk drive letters. The lower region contains file names. At this point the Remote System column should be completely blank meaning that you have not connected to your Virtual Web Server yet.

2. Click the connect button at the bottom of the window.
Now you should see a window very much like what is in The picture below. Profile Name: This is where you type in the name of your session. This can be whatever you want to call your particular connection to Angstrom. For example, 'Fred's FTP'.
Host Name: This is where you will type the address of the computer you want to connect to. This will be shell.angstrom.net
Host Type: This will be Automatic Detect. It can be chosen from the pull-down menu by pressing the down arrow to the right of the entry area.
User ID: This is where you will enter your Angstrom User ID. If you do not know what this is, contact Angstrom.
Password: This is where you will enter your Password. Once again, if you do not know this, contact Angstrom.
Save Password: By checking this box, the program will save your password so that you will not have to enter it every time you want to connect.
Save: When you are finished entering all of the above information hit the save button. Now you will be able to choose your session name from the pull-down menu

3. When you see the contents of your home directory in the Remote System window, click on the folder public_html. This is the directory where the files for your web page should go.
To transfer files, select them, then use the arrow keys to move them back and forth.
