The core modem pools for Pittsburgh dialup customers were upgraded to the
latest version of supported firmware this morning between 5:30 AM and 7:05 AM.
This upgrade required modem pool reboots, which may have affected some customer
connectivity for a brief period of time between 6:55 AM and 7:05 AM.
Anecdotal observation of this server
upgrade indicates the following: Lucent modems continue to operated well,
Rockwell modems perform better than in previous versions (particularly through
speed shifts), and USRobotics/3Com modems have some difficulty in establishing initial
high-speed connections, but connections improve after the first speed shift. Most USRobotics/3Com modems can be flashed with an
upgrade to improve initial speeds. Upgrades for flashable USRobotics modems are available at http://consumer.3com.com/modem/muw/
If you have questions about this upgrade, you can e-mail the Angstrom Support Team, or continue to watch this page for
updates. Thank you.
